MICE Capabilities Development Department is determined to significantly strengthen. Thailand’s MICE industry through content, knowledge management, networking, and market intelligence. MICE Capability Department is committed to strengthening Thailand’s MICE industry through its three strategic areas: People & Business Development and Certification; Standards for MICE Standardization; and MICE Sustainability.
The mission is to develop Thailand into the preferred MICE destination in Southeast Asia by equipping the MICE industry with standard knowledge, including personnel development and entrepreneurship in a sustainable way. In achieve this goal, TCEB is challenging Thai MICE market players to aim for and meet international standards in their operations, particularly in energy saving, food safety, contingency planning, and sustainability which has increasingly garnered global's attention in recent years. The MICE Capabilities Development department provides extensive support and resources to enable MICE stakeholders to reach optimum operational competency.
Over the past years, the bureau has initiated various standards to upgrade Thailand’s MICE industry and bring it up to international standard. These will strengthen the industry by providing assurance to the global marketplace that Thailand is ready to host international standard events. This in turn will be a key factor in increasing the competitive edge and ensuring the sustainable growth of the industry.
The TCEB has introduced 6 MICE standards to date as follows: -ISO 50001: Energy Management System, ISO 22000: Food Safety Management System ,TISI 22300: MICE Security Management System (MSMS), ISO 20121: Event Sustainability Management System, ISO 22301 : Business Continuity Management System, Furthermore, the TCEB is preparing to develop other MICE standards, among them National Skills Standard for MICE industry, Domestic MICE Standard, MICE Hotel Standard, and the Carbon Footprint Assessment Guideline for Exhibition Industry.
MICE is an effective marketing tools for every business sector at both the micro and macro economic levels and one that generates a rapid positive impact, the bureau must strengthen the fundamentals of the industry through aggressive preparation strategies. Thai MICE operators will able to use the standard tools to penetrate and expand their markets. Thailand can use the standard to prepare the private sectors to fight must the expected influx of foreign workers once the ASEAN Economic Economy comes into effect.
If Thailand’s MICE industry promotion is to cope with competition in the long-run, especially at a time when many countries are seriously discussing MICE 2020 and preparing to adapt to confront changes, the capabilities of Thai operators must be enhanced so that their standards are on par with international competitors. These standards will be used as a bargaining tool in business negotiations and form a barrier that will protect Thai MICE operators in the future.
Acceleration in the development of various MICE standards is therefore essential, as it will ensure that Thai MICE operators are well armed and thus prepared to fight in the global marketplace. TCEB, which is an important player in this development, is thus moving forward with aggressive plans that will elevate Thailand’s MICE industry and cover all dimensions in the sphere of global interest including the environment, energy, safety and management.

World’s First Nation Skills Standards for MICE Sector
The Ministry of Labour has agreed to define the standard of skills required for many positions in the MICE industry. The MICE Capabilities Development department will initiate training programmes to enable MICE personnel to gain certification for those positions and list them on the TCEB website to encourage international event organisers to employ skilled Thai workers.
Engineering Resilience
TCEB pioneered the MICE Security Management System (MSMS) in 2009 to encourage the development of viable contingency plans to cover any emergency and ensure continuity of MICE events. Thailand’s major event venues– Bangkok International Trade & ExhibitionCentre (BITEC),IMPACT Convention & Exhibition Center, Pattaya Exhibition And Convention Hall (PEACH) and Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) – are MSMS certified, a factor that has helped to win international bids.

New Standards for MICE Hotels
To assist hotels outside MICE Cities, the MICE Capabilities Development department aims to create new MICE Hotel Standards, which will apply to hotels of all star ratings with good meeting facilities. The standards will give hotels a stronger image when they bid for events, thereby spreading the events industry to exciting new destinations.
Business Continuity for MICE industry with ISO 22301
Incident can disrupt a business at any time and implementing ISO 22301 will make sure that business can react and maintain its operations. Incidents take many forms ranging from large scale natural disasters and acts of terror to technology-related accidents and environmental incidents. However, most incidents are small but can have a significant impact and that makes business continuity management relevant at all times. TCEB offers financial support to Thai’s MICE players implementing ISO 22301; they will be able to demonstrate to legislators, regulators, customers, prospective customers and other interested parties that they are adhering to good practice in Business Continuity Management Systems.
